Chapter 6 Question 3


The concept that I chose is Analyzing Images. I think that the ability to analyze or at least realize what the photographer is trying to show is very import. For example, one must know that all pictures have a bias because the photographer is specifically choosing that time and that place to capture. The photo on page 171 of the book “THINK” shows two students arguing about whether abortion should be legal or illegal. The photographer chose to capture the fight between the two sides instead of the more peaceful side of the protest. In the background there is no fighting or arguing the way that there is in the photo. Instead, people are turning their heads wondering what is going on. The facial expressions of the students look angry and even hostile. The photographer has captured an image and automatically created a situation where at first glance, one would think that a large fight is starting.
