September 24-30 Question 2

Evolution and a belief are incompatible according to Dawkins. Dawkin is an atheist which is someone who believes that there is no God at all. I personally don’t think that it is possible that both can exist because evolution claims that the world was started by a natural disaster that we now call “The Big Bang.” When one believes in God then they believe in the Bible. The Bible states that the world was created by God and not some random colliding of large masses.
Aquinas would definitely be against Dawkin’s atheism; however I do think that he would agree that the belief in evolution and the belief in God cannot coincide together. Dawkins actually questions the validity of Aquinas’s claims and states that he is assuming that God is as powerful as he is. Dawkins does not believe that God is as powerful as he claims to be. The debate between Aquinas and Dawkin would definitely be interesting.

  1. I was thinking the two were incompatible due to the Big Bang theory. But evolution actually has nothing to do with the Big Bang theory. Darwin just claimed that things change over time and the concept of fitness. He had nothing to do with the Big Bang theory I believe. Evolution does not claim the Big Bang theory. I believe that evolution and the existence of God as proclaimed by Aquinas proofs do have something in common which is the belief in natural design, which sounds very similar to Darwin’s natural selection. However, Darwin did come up with the theory of evolution to disprove the common belief at that time which was that God created everything the way that it is today.

  2. While some claim that evolution was started by a natural disaster as “The Big Bang.” I don’t kind of think that both may exist because evidence is starting to emerge where experiments are proven science. Somehow they existence of good and medicine can be tied together. The fact being that both want health for humans. Research in science has help with helping the sick. While that is Gods way of saying that they both can coexist. Now how they world started they do conflict with each other. There is going to be things that can coexist and others that can’t. That is my belief. Aquinas and Dawkins would be an interesting conversation. Therefore, I wouldn’t know how it would all unravel.
